The thatch is the spongy layer between the soil and the green part of the grass. The thatch also contains roots and dead grass leaves along with other organic matter. Some thatch is ideal to keep moisture in. Excessive thatch however makes it harder for the water and nutrients to reach to the roots, and it creates an inviting environment for pests. If you have over 1.5 cm of thatch, you should consider dethatching. We can also apply a soil conditioner, which will help breakdown the thatch by the micro organism in the soil.
